Sonny Kling, Assistant Coach

Sonny Kling is a high-level wrestler who has spent over 15 years immersed in the sport, building his career through discipline, resilience, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.

He developed his foundation training at top wrestling clubs, where he was surrounded by high-level athletes and coaches from a young age shaping the mindset and standard that would carry him to the top.

Sonny competed at Palm Desert High School for one year before continuing his career at Canyon Springs High School for two years, where he established himself as one of the top wrestlers in California.

Over the course of his high school career, he became a 3-time League Champion, 3-time CIF Champion, 3-time CIF-SS Masters Champion, 3-time CIF California State Finalist, and CIF State Champion, proving his ability to dominate at every level of competition.

On the national stage, Sonny captured titles at some of the most prestigious high school tournaments in the country, including Battle for the Belt, Preseason Nationals, and the Doc Buchanan Invitational, solidifying himself as a nationally respected competitor.

Throughout his career, Sonny was widely recognized across the Inland Empire for his dominance on the mat, earning honors such as Inland Empire Wrestler of the Year (2×) and recognition from The Press-Enterprise.

He also competed in elite events such as the Elite 8 Duals, where he was surrounded by current national champions and some of the best wrestlers in the country. That environment being around greatness and constantly raising the standard is what continues to drive him today.

Now as an assistant coach at Deep Waters Wrestling, Sonny brings that same mindset into the room every day. He is passionate about keeping athletes in high-level environments, surrounded by top coaches and elite competition because he knows firsthand that’s what it takes to become great.

For Sonny, it’s more than just wrestling it’s about building a culture of excellence, pushing limits, and developing the next generation to compete at the highest level.
